Research and Innovation
Research isn't just a choice; it's a necessity. In a rapidly evolving world, standing still is not an option.
We face new challenges, emerging diseases, and changing demographics that demand innovative solutions.
By delving into the depths of research, we unearth insights that reshape the very fabric of healthcare and caregiving.
Our vision is to establish Surrey Heartlands as a dynamic health ecosystem and the destination of choice to trial and scale research and innovations for improved citizen outcomes, with an ambition that all research should be:
- Underpinned by patient involvement
- Meaningfully relevant and coproduced with patients with lived experience, and enhances life quality for the citizens of Surrey Heartlands
- Collaborative with local authority, third sector organisations and academic partners
- Imaginative, innovative and future looking
Research is the cornerstone of advancing the health and wellbeing of the population and reducing healthcare inequalities. From building our understanding of how to prevent ill health, through to discovering new ways of diagnosing symptoms, providing more effective treatments and improving the way care is provided. These advancements in turn improve the quality of life, equity of access to care and experiences of patients and their loved ones.
The landscape of health and care research is evolving, and so are we. While traditional research methods remain crucial, we recognise the value of a broader perspective. Our commitment extends beyond illness treatment to understanding the wider determinants of health and their impacts on health outcomes. We investigate the complex interplay of genetics, lifestyle, environment, and social factors, forging a holistic understanding of wellness, working closely with our wider partners (local authority, voluntary/community sector and academic partners) through the Wider Determinants of Health Research Collaborative led by Surrey County Council.
